We serve as a source of education, advocacy, and collaboration for those interested in growing family farms and historical preservation rather than sprawling major subdivisions in Moore County. People move to Moore County, NC for its charm and country life - not to be surrounded by half acre tract houses. Moore County has lost sight of its history, heritage, and charm in a headlong rush toward overdevelopment and urban sprawl. This website chronicles the dangers of this course and charts a path forward.
Moore County grew out of a rural farming background, producing naval stores and vineyards before prohibition - then came dewberries, tobacco, horse farms, and golf communities. This was when people sought out Moore County for a lifestyle and to raise their families in a community that they cared about and that cared for them.
Moore County has lost sight of its past in a headlong rush to be a bedroom community for Fayetteville and Raleigh. The Commissioners and the Planning Board are approving major subdivisions at an unprecedented rate in the same rural fields that used to support the community.
We are at a crossroads. In 10 years, Moore
County will be just another Durham, Apex, Fayetteville, or worse - unless we take a different path. Moore Family Farms supports just that - we need to incentivize the development of 6-11 acre farms. Read about ALL the positives this approach holds for us.
